However, Nagalakshmi Chaudhary, the chairperson of the Karnataka State Women’s Commission, said that an inquiry cannot begin until the actress formally files a complaint.
Senior IPS officer Ramachandra Rao’s stepdaughter, Ranya Rao, was taken into custody on Monday night at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru for attempting to illegally transport 14.2 kilogram of gold bars valued at ₹14.56 crore. She had taken an Emirates flight from Dubai to Bengaluru.

Though he stressed that the panel could not act until a formal complaint was submitted, Chaudhary denounced the alleged “assault” on the actress.
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) was also ordered by the court to make sure that their questioning techniques weren’t abusive.
Since Ranya Rao was visiting Dubai for the fourth time in 15 days, the DRI was already keeping an eye on her. She had previously been found by authorities to have made 27 trips to Dubai in the previous year. When authorities searched her home after her detention at the airport, they found gold jewelry valued at more than ₹2.crore as well as ₹2.67 crore in cash.
